ABOUT C2C
Integrative approaches are needed to address sustainability challenges in marine and coastal systems, as the existing ecological challenges cannot be fully tackled, without the consideration of broader territorial social and economic scenarios. In view of the existing challenges, the Cost to Coast (C2C) project aims at the development and operationalization of an integrative approach suitable to monitor the territorial development of maritime, estuarine and coastal areas, while preserving ecosystems and the services they provide, and without promoting the externalization of impacts to other geographic locations.
Specific objectives:
(1) Propose a novel conceptual framework to consistently address ecosystem services loss, at a territorial scale throughout a life cycle perspective (Work Package 1, WP1);
(2) Develop a methodology to assess the basket of marine, estuarine and coastal ecosystem services, shared by different stakeholders at a territorial scale, applying the conceptual framework developed in WP1 (Work Package 2, WP2);
(3) Create a new set of LCIA indicators to quantify the potential loss of aquatic ecosystem services consistent with the conceptual framework developed in WP1 (Work Package 3, WP3);
(4) Apply the developed methodologies and indicators (WP2 and WP3) following the framework and guidelines developed in WP1 to characterize the impacts on marine, estuarine and coastal (WP2) and aquatic (WP3) ES, resulting from human activities, in two case studies (the Lake Saint Pierre, in Québec, Canada, and the Thau lagoon, in France (Work Package 4, WP4).
Project management and outreach:
Project management is ensured within Work Package 0, WP0 and dissemination and communication is dealt within Work Package 5, WP5.
